About Me

Mató C. Lawrence is a dark fantasy and horror author who is proudly Indigenous. She is half-Anishinaabe and Lakota on her father’s side. Mató identifies as genderqueer and pansexual. When she is not writing, she is busy with her day job as a social media manager & graphic designer, or spending time cuddling with one of her two cats, Max and Owlbert. She currently lives in New England with her two cats and boyfriend. She has one published short story, Aesthetically Hungry, in OUT THERE Into The Queer New Yonder under the pseudo-name Mató J. Steger—her former last name. For nine years Mató lived as a trans man, until she realized her gender crossed the lines and she is more two-spirited than she originally thought. Though that time as a trans man gave her a deeper perspective about the world that she is very grateful for.
Mató C. Lawrence holds a BA in English & Creative Writing which she graduated with in 2019. She also holds a BA in Graphic Design & Media Arts graduating in 2022. Currently, she is attending graduate school for a Masters in Marketing with a focus on digital and social media. She has been casually writing since 2001, and started writing with intent to publish in 2015.
In 2025, Stars Beneath — A Queer Urban Fantasy — Will be releasing from Cloaked Press, LLC.
